The Seven Healthy Habits of Happy Writers

Want to be a happy writer? Some days this seems like an impossible task. Writing is hard, that's for darn sure, and it seems like the moments of creativity and inspiration are few and far between. Want to know how to feed that muse and keep the work coming? Here are the top seven tips:

1. Don't Procrastinate

Watching that deadline creep up stinks. Watching it pounce and devour you whole is even worse! The best way to avoid sloppy work and last minute late nights is to pace yourself. Nobody wants to create crappy work, let alone publish or sell it. Give yourself a few more days than you think you need to be sure you have plenty of time to get everything done. You never know what's going to happen, and it's always best to be prepared.

Set a pace for yourself and stick to it. If there's a certain time of day in which you work best, set aside that time as writing time. Be sure you don't overwhelm yourself, though, and give yourself the occasional day off. Sometimes writing when you're tearing your hair out just isn't doing any good, and it can't be helping your hair either. I write two pages in my novel everyday, but I allow myself the occasional break on weekends and holidays. I write during the same time (on the bus, about the only time I can spare), and it works for me! Find the time, place, and pace that will work for you.

2. Write Down EVERYTHING

And when I say everything, I mean everything! Jot down all those moments of inspiration, whenever they come. Make sure you have an organized folder or notebook for all your ideas. I use a document on my laptop so I can copy and paste. It's also a good idea to keep a notepad beside your bed for all those random tidbits that hit you in the night. I can think of many times when I've lost ideas that had potential just because I was too tired to walk across the room. These habits are good to have for all those ideas that come at you unexpectedly. You never know where brilliance will strike! And one of the keys to being a great writer is being observant. Pay attention to conversations overheard or beautiful scenes that take you in. Write these things down. I also find the more that I'm working on one project, the more my subconscious works on it, too. I'll have ideas come at me from nowhere, and I'll be frantically grabbing a pen, scribbling to get the ink running, and getting down the idea before I forget it. Some thoughts I end up using, some I don't, but it's always nice to have them stored.

3. Outline

Some people will cringe at this one, and I concede that outlining may not be for everyone, but it sure works for me. Outlining will save you loads of time and make the writing process easier during that first rough draft. I've outlined my entire novel, and I make an outline of every post, article, or paper that I write before I start that introduction. That way, once the pen's on the paper or the fingers are on the keyboard, you know exactly what you're going to say and the directions you're going to take. Don't be afraid to deviate from your outline if inspiration strikes (note previous tip), but it's always a good idea to have a roadmap of where you're going.

4. Work in a Stress-Free Zone

This may be one of the hardest habits to meet, for, if you're not a full-time writer, you may write only whenever you can squeeze a moment in. If you have the option, however, it's a great idea to find a comfortable time and place to write. Working on a piece with friends or strangers looking over your shoulder may put the pressure on and freeze up your words, so write in a place that's relaxing for you. Go to your corner with a cup of cocoa and a favorite pillow, and type away. Play music while you write, if it's not too distracting, to make it fun. If you're writing a dramatic scene in your novel, play the Lord of the Rings soundtrack to help you feel the moment. Inspire yourself with your surroundings.

5. Make Time for Yourself

At first glance, this habit may not seem like it has much to do with writing, but believe me, it does. Writing while under stress only amps up the difficulty level, and everyone needs a break. Don't beat yourself up if the words aren't flowing. Take a walk or a hike, watch a movie or read. These activities are relaxing and rejuvenating, and you may just find that once you go back to your writing, the ideas flow.

6. Write About What You Love

This habit is a sure method of getting ideas going and never losing the passion for writing. If you're writing about something you love, you probably know a lot about the subject or are excited about learning more. This will give you endless material from which to draw ideas. Writing what you love keeps the fun in writing, and you won't have to drag your feet to come back to projects. I love Molecular Biology, Fantasy, and writing, so these are the things I choose to write about.

7. Go Easy on Yourself

This is the final tip and perhaps the most important. To keep those ideas coming and to keep yourself a happy writer, it's important not to beat yourself up. The muses hate that. There's no way ideas are going to grow out of ground that's wilted! Give yourself compliments on your writing and allowances when it's not as good as it could be. Remind yourself of your successes, and keep on polishing. If you struggle to compliment yourself, have someone who loves you dole the praise out. This can be a great self-esteem boost and another motivation to get back to that piece you were wrestling that got you down in the first place. There's nothing worse than losing confidence and freezing up at the keyboard.

These things, I have found, are the best ways to ensure that you're a happy writer. Don't take my word for it; try them out! And remember, a happy writer is a productive writer, and that's what we're all aiming for. Even on the days when we don't feel like superheroes… Now, what was that movie?

Chapter Ten

As soon as Jonathan left for his office, M left the sanctuary of her room. With a pad of paper and a pencil in hand, she headed out back to the poolside.

Time to get serious and put some thought into the meal she'd cater for Jonathan and his colleagues. Kicking off her flip flops—cheap rubber with big, gaudy flowers—she curled into a chair.

She needed to take a moment and let the sound of the water, from both the pool pump and the nearby fountain, ease her twisted thoughts. Where did she stand with Jonathan Davenport? Last week he'd kissed her like a lover—albeit an angry one—but a lover all the same. Then today; one moment he's calling her a friend and a little while later he's looking angry and talking about Summer and his father's other wives. Did he lump her in with the money hungry women he obviously considered beneath him? He couldn't. Not if he thought of her as a friend. He'd never once looked at her with, or treated her with, contempt. And for all his talk of social circles, she'd never tag him as a snob. Of course, what examples of his treatment of others did she have? Well, there was Estelle. He treated her with love, compassion, and tenderness. And she was his housekeeper. Granted, he'd known her for most of his life, but still, she was his employee.

M thought back over the last few weeks. She'd arrived at his door looking like a bum, and he'd offered her refuge. He'd offered his business services—free. He'd helped her to reaffirm her abilities and restored her faith in herself. He was giving her a chance to cater a meal. And so many times, in so many ways, he'd proved to her that he wasn't the life sized ice sculpture she'd first thought he was. No, for all that Jonathan wanted to trick the world—and himself—into believing he was emotionless, he disproved it time and again.

And even if she took all of those things out of the equation she'd still love him, just for the way he looked after his sister. He never treated her like a responsibility he'd rather pawn off. He'd taken over the role of father and applied himself to it one hundred percent.

Would he focus that kind of energy on a wife?

M shook her head, the long pigtail spilling from her crown slapping her as she did so. She didn't have time for fairy tales. Jonathan Davenport was the king of the castle and she was nothing more than the dirty rascal. Did she really want to set herself up for another fall? She'd walked—all right, she'd run—away from Stephen and decided that hermetically sealing off her heart was the safest route to go.

The sound of her pencil scratching across paper suddenly invaded her consciousness. Unbelievable. She'd been sitting here, her mind in the clouds, writing JD and MMM and encircling the initials with hearts. What was she? Twelve?

She ripped the page off, crumpled it in a ball and shoved it in the pocket of her denim cut-offs. But hiding the proof of her thoughts didn't change them. On some level, she knew that Jonathan was different from Stephen. And she knew that however hard he might be fighting it, this attraction was not one-sided. And if there was any chance of something happening between the two of them, she'd gladly put up her heart as collateral. She'd put aside her belief that being alone for the rest of her life was the best—the safest—thing for her.

Later that night, after exhaustion overtook Alicia, and she wound down after the excitement of her day enough to sleep, M knocked on the door of Jonathan's office.

After hearing a distracted sounding "Come in," she opened the door a bit and poked her head around it.

Jonathan stood at a drafting table that hadn't been there the last time she was in this room. He had a set of drawings spread out before him.

"Is this a bad time?"

He turned he head slightly toward her, and she caught sight of the pencil he had gripped between his teeth. He shook his head, and motioned her in.

My moved up behind him and peeked around his arm to see what he was working on. Wow. It was the house she'd seen before.

"That's beautiful. Who are you designing it for?"

He shoulders tensed slightly, and she heard him sigh. He took the pencil out of his mouth and set it down. "No one. It's just something I play around with occasionally."

She caught a wistful tone in his voice and wondered at it. "Oh? You're very good. You like to design things?"

He pointed her toward the couch at one end of his office, then sat at the other end of it once she'd seated herself.

He didn't say anything for a moment, just frowned, cupped the back of his neck with a palm, and gazed at a point over her shoulder. Finally, he sighed and looked directly into her eyes. "When I was young…when I was young I wanted to be an architect. I didn't want to just design houses; I wanted to design something significant, something revolutionary."

He shook his head and let loose a mocking little laugh. Then didn't say anything else.

M couldn't let it go. "What happened? I don't know anything about architecture, but from what I just saw, you know what you're doing. How did you end up as an accountant?"

"I grew up."

After curling her legs up under herself, she cocked her head and bent slightly toward him. "I don't understand. How did growing up make you leap from architecture to accounting?"

He flopped back, resting his neck on the back of the couch and staring at the ceiling. His hands fisted for a moment before he laced his fingers together on his stomach.

M remained silent, waiting him out.

Finally, he spoke. "My dad was an artist. Did you know that?"

What did that have to do with anything? "Ah, no. Was he famous?" Not that that would mean anything to her. She hadn't exactly had any education in the arts.

Jonathan shook his head. "No. Not famous. He mostly dabbled, but he was quite good. Several of the paintings throughout the house are his. He did the seascape in your room. And the portrait of my mother in the formal dining room."

M turned around so she faced him completely, then pulled her legs up and wrapped her arms around her shins. "Really? Wow. They're beautiful. But, um, what does that have to do with anything? Was he the one that didn't want you to become an architect?"

"No. He was actually happy that I'd inherited some of his talent. I loved to draw as a kid…" He turned and grinned at her. "And I don't just mean the crayon on newsprint kind of drawing, although I guess it all started there. Give me some charcoal and I could draw free-hand for hours. Anyway, one thing led to another. By the time I was a teenager I'd decided I was going to get my degree in architecture."

He did a little squirming and fell silent.

"Soooo….what changed your mind?" M prompted.

A shrug, a compression of his lips, and then, "My mother died. My parents were perfect for each other. They loved each other. And…well, I told you earlier. He just went a little nuts after she died. You have to understand, my father was a…" He grimaced. "…sensitive kind of guy. Emotional. You can see it expressed in his art. Anyway, I don't know what happened, it's like his brain shut down one day and his heart took over. That was okay when it was him and my mom. It wasn't okay with the rest of them."

He still hadn't given her a direct answer, but reading between the lines, M was able to draw her own conclusions.

When Others Discover

Before I get to today's post I would like to invite all of you to my very first interview. It was conducted by Nina Powers and you can find it on her site. The other small piece of news is that the countdown is almost over. On Monday, at noon, I will share with you what the big announcement is. I believe you will be excited about this one.

You probably already know this but things change as you make a shift in life. Sometimes those changes are subtle and sometimes they are big. I'm not sure where you would categorize these changes but here are a few.

Pressure:

We, as writers, are always under some sort of pressure. It is often self-inflicted but still there. Then we move to the pressure that comes from submitting our work to agents and publishers. I, like I've been told by many other authors, have discovered a new sort of pressure. That pressure has two faces. The first face is that of writing the second novel. Your first is published so now you have to deliver again but the bar is raised a little higher. The second face of this pressure monster is that of networking. We all need to build our platform but the time of doing that while we focus on writing the next novel only builds on the pressure that we can feel.

Writing:

This is actually a good change because once you get the recognition of having your work published the more confidence you take with you to your next project. It doesn't matter if you are published in a magazine, newspaper, or with a publisher; every time your work is put in print your confidence grows a little. This confidence is shown in our writing as we delve into different areas where we once thought we could not write.

It is always a great thing to explore your craft and build your skills. The confidence we garner with published works builds our momentum to do just that.

Awareness:

This is a big one. I'm not talking about our awareness with anything. I'm talking about others awareness of us. This week alone many of my hometown friends and family found out that I have a novel coming out soon. I was hit with an overwhelming tidal wave of e-mails, Facebook messages and things like that. I have to be honest, my nerves went haywire. It was almost overpowering. I've asked some friends who have had books out for a very long time about this very thing. They told me that the nervous part really doesn't go away; you just get used to it. That made me feel a little better.

I don't think many people discuss this portion of the business. We have to put ourselves out there; that is part of the business. While we get nervous when a group of strangers start asking questions it is our friends and family that really put us on edge.

So what do we do? First, we keep writing because that is the core. Next, we remember that we don't need to do everything in one day. A schedule can help but the peace of mind this thought brings goes a long way. I recommend that we take time out to relax and breathe. The social networks can get crazy and when added with writing (and life) can make the week seem like a blur. Take a moment to exhale, chill and then start back.

The last thing is to always remember that your manuscript it yours. That means that not everyone will enjoy or appreciate it; including family and friends. This can get tough because they are the ones that will make the comments and ask the question that others may not. The thing is they don't know the amount of work that goes into publishing a book. They only see the final result. As the news spreads and more people find out remember that the attention tsunami will pass by; things will settle down and we can go on with our writing in peace. It might get tough and our feelings might get hurt at times but at the end of the day we have our loved ones and our manuscripts to blank out the rest.

Did you, by chance, notice the countdown clock right above this post? Are you slightly curious as to what the announcement will be? I can promise you that it has nothing to do directly with me. Nope, this announcement has everything to do with everyone who follows, subscribes and reads this blog. I believe the countdown will run out at noon on August first. Is that a long time to wait? Yes, for some it is but I promise that it will be worth the wait.

Where have I been this week? I have been busy for one and it might surprise you that I haven't been to extremely busy with writing. Actually I am at the end of my first round of revisions for my second novel which happens to be the major wholesale change so I'm not sure how long it will take me to get through that last bit. Would you believe my schedule is starting to fill up for the next two months? I remember when scheduling the next week was a challenge. I have been asked to be a guest on a number of websites in both August and September. Now that I think about it; I think I will add a schedule on here so you know where I am. Oh that sounded so....pompous of me. That was not my intention at all. I enjoy being on other blogs and I enjoy sharing that experience with you. Just think, you might find a new blog to follow.

A few months back I wrote a post about backing up your work in case something bad happens. I would like to add to that now. A good friend of mine unintentionally deleted his entire blog! He meant to delete just one post I think but instead he deleted his blog all together. For those who don't know; if you delete your blog entirely you cannot get it back. His new blog is currently in the works and should be ready to go in a few days. The lesson from this is that, once we get our blog looking the way we want, we need to download a copy of it to our computers. This will not help if you delete it but if something goes crazy with your blog you can upload your back up and start there.

Marsha treated her thick, dark hair to a home body permanent once a month with great success—except for tonight. Halfway through the perm process the electricity went off. What went wrong? This had never happened before in her apartment at Dodge City, Kansas.

As she pawed through her kitchen junk drawer for a flashlight, she remembered the batteries were dead. Sifting through the litter for candles, she found none. She stabbed her finger on an unseen pointed weapon as she probed.

Now what? She still had to apply solution to each curl and wait specified minutes before rinsing. It was a complicated job with double mirrors in the bathroom. There was no way she could manage with a wounded finger in a blackout.

Blood dripping from her finger, she reached for the first thing she could find in the dark—the crocheted dishrag her niece had made her. It hung on the side of the refrigerator because it was too pretty to use and also because it was useless, having been made with extremely find thread.

Her first thought involved going to the apartment next to hers to ask the old biddy who lived there for candles or a flashlight or maybe even batteries. She was apprehensive because Mrs. Schultz always stared at her as if she expected to discover sin on Marsha’s twenty-five-year-old face. Marsha had given up saying hello if they met in the hall, because all she ever got from Schultzie was a frown and eyes staring into hers as if she were the antichrist. She didn’t need that tonight.

Annie, a friend who rented the other apartment on the second floor, had gone away for the weekend with her latest male conquest. Lucky dog. Marsha wished she had someone special. Schultz was her only hope.

Still holding the pitiful dishrag around her finger, she jammed her hand into a rubber glove she found while fumbling on the counter near the sink. At least she wouldn’t drip blood as she searched for the door to Mrs. Schultz’ apartment.

Whoops! Her bare foot connected with blood on the kitchen floor and slid out from under her. She grabbed the junk drawer to steady herself, accidentally pulled it out, and heard the debris scatter. She lost her balance and fell, hitting her nose on the edge of the refrigerator. Blood spurted out, ran down her face, and dripped on her tee shirt. She stripped off the shirt, wadded it up and pressed it to her nose to to stanch the bleeding.

When the bleeding stopped, Marsha wiped her face with the clean part of the tee shirt. She carefully slid her fingers along the furniture and walls until she reached her bathroom. She pulled her Sponge Bob shower cap over the perm curlers and wrapped her short, pink bathrobe around her to replace the tee shirt.

In the hall, just as Marsha summoned enough courage to knock on Mrs. Schultz’ door, she heard, “Come on in. It’s about time you got here. Did you tour the whole town first?”

“How did you know I was coming?” Marsha said.

“You’re not Riley.” A suspicious voice. “Who are you and what do you want?”

“I’m Marsha Hood from Apartment 2 B. I’d like to borrow a flashlight. Were you expecting someone else?”

“I sure didn’t expect you. My son is on his way with a flashlight. Ought to be here soon. Find a chair and sit. Can’t do nothing ’til he gets here.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Schultz.” Marsha decided to fill the silence with light conversation. “What were you doing when the electricity went off?”

“I was sitting here embroidering quilt blocks. Scared me half to death. I dropped all my embroidery floss on the floor. There’s Riley at the door now. Cone on in,” she yelled. “We’re just sitting here waiting.”

Her son opened the door and put his flashlight on the table. It was a huge monster that faintly lit up the whole room. Marsha watched his eyes turn to slits as he stared at the floor then at her.

“What have you done to my mother?”

“Hold on, Riley. She didn’t do nothing. I dropped my sewing when the lights went out. Did you bring more than one flashlight?” his mother said.

“I brought three,” he said as he turned a flashlight on Marsha and gasped.

Looking down at herself in the light, she saw one rubber-gloved hand with a frilly dishrag drooping out the top of it. The other hand was bloody, as were her shorts, bare feet, and the bathrobe she had hurriedly put on—inside out. She could only imagine the blood smeared on the silly shower cap and also crusted under her nose.

And there stood Riley Schultz, the first male she’d encountered in months whose knuckles didn’t scrape the floor when he walked. He had brilliant blue eyes and wavy, blond hair—a Greek god—and Marsha realized she must look like the aftermath of a nuclear attack.

“I had an accident and did my best to clean up in the dark before I came over from my apartment to your mother’s.”

“I’d better see that you get back home. I’ll give you one of the flashlights,” Riley said.

“She looks like she was in trouble over there. See if she needs help, Riley.” Kind words from Mrs. Schultz. Marsha felt low for being unkind behind her back, so low, in fact, a backhoe couldn’t get down to her level.

When she and Riley reached her apartment, he flashed the light around exposing bloody hand smears on the walls and the floor littered with treasures from her junk drawer, some of which soaked in a puddle of blood. He studied the trashed kitchen a moment before he frowned and said, ”Care to explain?”

Before she could think of a reasonable answer, a heavy knock sounded on the open door.

“Police. Put your hands up, both of you.” A male and female officer, savage frowns on their faces, came into the kitchen. They each carried a flashlight and a 9mm Glock pointed at Marsha and Riley.

“I’m Officer Plains and this is Officer Stucky,” the policeman said, indicating the female next to him.

“What do you want?” Marsha said in a tiny voice, hands raised high, one trailing the lacy dishrag from a rubber glove.

“We had a call about this apartment. Who are you?” the policeman barked at Riley.

“I’m Riley Schultz. My mother lives next door. I came over to help this young lady and bring her a flashlight.”

“And who is she?” the uniformed male hulk asked, pointing to Marsha.

“I don’t know her name.”

“Don’t talk about me like I’m not here.” Marsha’s hands came down, the dishrag fluttering. “I’m Marsha Hood, and this is my apartment. I tried to borrow a light from Mrs. Schultz.”

“What’s that awful smell?” Officer Stucky’s nose puckered, as she interrupted the conversation.

“I was giving myself a perm when the electricity failed.”

“Can you explain where all this blood came from?” Officer Plains asked.

Marsha said, “I’ll do my best.”

Step by step she told about probing in the junk drawer in the dark, her wounded finger, her nosebleed, blood-smeared walls and her costume. Before she finished, the officers’ savage frowns had turned into amused stares. Riley just looked dazed.

Officer Plains said to him, “You’d better report back to your mother and let her know there’s no problem here—at least there’s no police problem here. Your mother’s the one who called us. We’ll be over to talk to her as soon as we get some more information from this unfortunate young woman.”

Officer Stucky pointed her light toward the bathroom and pushed Marsha before her. “I’ll help you get cleaned up and put something on your hand.”

She soon had Marsha’s face clean and a bandage wrapped around her finger. She even applied the perm lotion to the curlers while Marsha held the flashlight.

Shortly after the police left, the electricity flipped back on. By the time Marsha removed the curlers, washed and blow-dried her hair, and donned a clean pair of jeans and a pink tee shirt, she felt in charge of her life again. She scooped the refuse from the junk drawer into a box and mopped the kitchen floor.

After a deep breath, she grabbed the borrowed flashlight and knocked on Mrs. Schultz’ door. Riley opened the door and smiled at her. “Hey, there. You clean up nice,” he said. His appreciative gaze slid from her hair to her tee shirt to her shoes and back to her face. “Come on in.”

“Thank you. I came to return the flashlight. I’ve written myself a note to get batteries for mine. And I want to that you, Mrs. Schultz, for being concerned enough to call the police. I had no idea how much blood I had spread around until I saw myself in the light.”

“You were a mess. I figgered someone tried to kill you and you fought back,” Mrs. Schultz said.

“I can see how you might have thought that,” Marsha said, nodding thoughtfully.

Riley spoke up, “I didn’t know what to think when I saw how you were dressed and all covered with blood. I couldn’t wait to get to your apartment to see what happened.”

Marsha drew another deep breath. “I know it’s ten o’clock, but I made a fresh pot of coffee, and I have homemade brownies, if you’d both like to come over.”

“You go ahead, Riley. It’s my bedtime and I’m tired. Thanks anyway, but I’ll take a rain check,” Mrs. Schultz said.

Riley said, “Coffee sounds good to me, and I never turn down brownies, especially homemade. I’ll call you tomorrow, Mother.” He stood up, prepared to follow Marsha.

“Good night, Mrs. Schultz. You definitely have a rain check coming,” Marsha said with a radiant smile.

As she opened her own apartment door to the aroma of coffee and the brownies she would soon be sharing with Riley, Marsha thought, “There is a God! I must make time to get better acquainted with that dear little old lady who lives right next door to me.”

Does Your Writing Evolve?

Some may disagree with this comment but as I continue to write I can't help but to look back and see how my writing is or has changed. Have you done that? Do you do that? Is it even worth doing it? I mean, can we learn anything from comparing our latest work to work we completed months or even years ago?

I don't know really that's why am presenting it to you. I can tell you that I don't compare anything to my very first manuscript because that was simply horrible. I learned a great deal writing it but I'm pretty sure that one will never see the light of day. I've found myself comparing my latest novel to my last on a number of occasions. It's not over anything major but the comparison is still there. I wonder if I will compare the third to the one I'm writing now or to both past novels.

What am I comparing? Before I started writing this novel I made it a goal to attempt and build more of the setting and establish more depth to the characters during the first writing instead of fleshing it out during the revisions. That was a challenge because I instantly made a comparison between how fast I wrote the first draft of my first novel to this one which was going much slower. Of course the pace, flow and other aspects of the story itself was different from the first but that's not exactly what I'm talking about.

A big comparison came about when I began the first round of revisions. No, I'm not done with that round yet but I am getting close. The first novel looked like I bleed all over it from beginning to end which didn't surprise me because all my past work, to that point, looked much the same. The revisions for my current novel are much different. They seem to be sporadic throughout the novel. That doesn't mean I don't catch some misspelled words or messed up sentences throughout. No, I'm talking about major revisions. You know, the kind that changes a whole scene or paragraph. These major revisions seem to pop up in clusters throughout. Does this mean my writing is evolving?

I'm not sure about that. I think it means I'm getting more of my thoughts and ideas on the paper during the first draft. I believe the revisions are showing that. Then again, I could right my third novel and bleed all over it...who really knows. I do know that, as authors, we should always attempt to push ourselves and the only way to know if we are pushing our abilities is to compare it to what we did in the past. That may provide a solid gauge for us to use. Again, I'm not sure if our writing evolves or just improves. Is improving the same as evolving?

Have you heard the rumblings throughout the social networks and Internet? Have you seen it first hand? Maybe you have but for those who have not this is a revealing article. About two weeks ago I converted my author blog to a website and redesigned it. The redesign was major as I only kept a few of the widgets and added some bells and whistles. The new site is catered more as a landing spot for everyone to find out more about the book coming out soon and future releases. Oh yes, I have dreams of future releases.

It includes a welcome page, contact page, and some other pages that you would expect to see on an author's website; however, I also included a 'Did You Know' page. I originally slated this page as a journal of sorts but I got an idea that changed that. From time to time I will update that page with facts that pertain to an aspect from the book(s) plus a few odds and ins about the publishing process. I'm having fun adding things to that page and I hope you enjoy reading it.

The other major item on the site is the link to my Facebook Fan Page. I am still tweaking the fan page but I believe it is well under way. I have 17 Likes so far but I need 8 more to the magic number of 25. Once I hit that mark I will be able to do more with the page. Under each of the pages I included a comment gadget. I did this so you can easily leave me a message about anything you see on the site. It is my hope that this will generate conversations and things of that nature.
